The best experience during our vacation in Japan
We stayed at Sadachiyo ryokan on our last night in Japan/Tokyo. It was actually the best experience we had during our vacation in Japan. The breakfast was really good. The staff hospitality was the best we experienced. We highly recommend Sadachiyo ryokan to experience top-notch hospitality and traditional Japanese hotel.

One of my Best Hotel Experiences Ever
This place is amazing! I went with 3 friends in August and kept kicking myself for not writing a review sooner. I think it's a testament to how great a time my friends and I had that I still decided it was worth it 4 months later. The location is great, it's right by this enclosed street full of shops and is very near to public transit which can get you anywhere around Tokyo. The rooms were very clean and had a very classic Japanese style, at least in my mind. Lastlly, the staff were amazing. They were always smiling and saying hello as you'd pass them going in and out of the building. Can't give them enough credit for making the stay so comfortable

First of all, I should say that the staff were fantastic - very friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful salon on the main floor, a bathhouse on premise, a cute historical vibe, and a great location in Asakusa. This property has a lot going for it! It has some serious flaws, though: 1. It has a midnight strict curfew. We did not realize this when booking, and it was a big turn-off, especially since the property is a in a city that never sleeps and is known for night life. This put a big damper on our experience. 2. There is only one option for a bed: a thin futon mattress on the floor. We managed to make it work, but it was not comfortable. I realize that this goes along with the historical theme, but management might consider putting something softer underneath the futon space for modern visitors. 3. My wife and I both developed rashes and got bug bites while we were there. I'm not sure what the culprit was, but I suspect it was those futon mattresses and something living in there. Not good. 4. The walls are thin, and there was major construction going on outside with a ton of loud noise, preventing decent sleep. Not entirely the hotel's fault, but it impacts the stay of visitors so I'm sharing it for visibility. 5. There is no shower, just a drain in the bathroom floor and a handheld device. Water gets everywhere. 6. The nearest public transit is an express line, not a subway line, which is inconvenient In sum, while the place was cute, I would not book again.

relaxing experience. great service.
Stay was great. Great service from the start. Explanations of the different amenities explained as well as given in a packet in english. Even the air conditioner and TV remote were diagrammed. The one thing that wasn't diagrammed was the bidet toilet. I wish i had booked another night there to tried both bath types. please note that this is a traditional style beds so everything is on the ground. including all seating. most spacious room i had in my trip to tokyo. Wifi was a little spotty but the surrounding neighborhood has so many good places to eat.

We cancelled upon arrival due to insalubrity issues. The rooms were dirty and filthy (brown marks on the wall), the floor was sticky and humid. The entrance smelled of cigarette smoke. The staff only agreed to refund one of the 2 nights. We had to book another hotel on the spot, so quite a horrible experience at that place.

English-friendly traditional Japanese inn
Perfect for travelers who want the experience of a traditional Japanese inn, complete with futons on tatami mats in the room and a communal bath. A convenient 10 minute walk to Sensōji/Asakusa Kannon Temple and a nearby Tokyo metro station. An incredibly friendly staff who always greeted us with a smile at all hours of the day. English-friendly as well! We included the Japanese breakfast option in our reservation, and both days the food was fresh and delicious. We would love to come back and stay here again, and definitely recommend Sadachiyo for a unique Japanese hotel experience!

Absolutely loved it
Loved this hotel. The experience of staying in a ryokan was wonderful. The baths were amazing- I liked the stone bath better than the wood but both are very enjoyable. Staff is super friendly and the location is great - mostly quiet neighborhood but close to subway and sights. Sleeping and sitting on the floor is a little uncomfortable if you have back or knee pain, but a good soak in the tubs helps and it’s worth the experience. Highly recommended.

Gem in Asakusa
Lovely ryokan in the Taito ward, walking distance from Sensoji temple, Kamanari-mon Gate, Kappabashi (Kitchen Town), Sumida river. This older Tokyo neighborhood is quite a maze to maneuver, and if you're direction-challenged (like me), you could get lost a few times trying to get back to the inn, LOL. But getting lost in this meandering area reveals a nice, historic part of Tokyo away from the busier areas of Shibuya and Shinjuku. There are many restaurants and small yakitori shops, some just a few steps away. We took a cab from and to Ueno station (just under 1,000 yen) because of our luggage. When we checked out, one of the female staff valiantly rushed off to the main road to hail a cab (thank you sooo much!), which then drove right to the front of the ryokan for our pickup. We didn't try the small onsens, which filled up with just three people. But the furo in our room was nice. We will stay here again.

Authentic Traditional Japanese Experience
There are few traditional ryokans left in Tokyo, and this one is of high quality and with an English speaking staff. From traditional tatami rooms with modern conveniences such as in room bathroom, to meals served in traditional large tatami rooms with a multi course dinner, Sadachiyo is a must stay for those looking to immerse themselves in Japanese culture in a traditional manner.

Full of Japanese tradition
Lovely hotel to sample a bit of Japanese tradition/culture. Beautifully arranged inside with lots of historical Japanese artefacts. Unfortunately the exterior was being renovated during our stay but the owner very politely excused these essential renovations. The staff were incredibly polite and courteous, and spoke great English giving us helpful directions around the local area.

Sadachiyo Ryokan
This hotel is located a little far from the kaminarimon but the night staff guy was great. There was one guy during the day that did not help. In fact, the nice older lady in kimono carried our luggage to the taxi. Had huge cockroaches tho'. The Japanese breakfast was delicious and they accommodated my friend's request for no fish and replaced it with something else.

Great stay for average sized people
Of the four hotels I stayed in on my trip to Japan, this was by far my favorite. The staff was warm and accommodating, spoke very good English, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Full disclosure: the hotel isn't built for very big people. The doorways, elevator, pretty much the entire place is pretty cozy. I'm 5'10 and I was comfortable, but I imagine that anyone above 6' would feel a little cramped. That said, the 7.5 tatami mat room was pretty much perfect for me and my buddy who stands a little shorter at about 5'8. The location is solid if you're looking to sight-see around Asakusa (i.e. Senso-ji, Skytree, etc.). The neighborhood is also very interesting. There's a small shopping lane a few blocks down as well as some of the best ramen at the end of the street I had during my 10-day journey around Japan. We also had the breakfast package and it was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who's looking to visit the Asakusa and Ueno areas of Tokyo.

Good Ryokan experience
I booked this hotel for 3 people, but when I arrived, the hotel said that we had to pay for the 3rd person, although Hotels.com booking accepted the booking for 3 people (3 beds or 12 tatami mats). The hotel received my request to place 3 beds (instead of the tatami mats) for 3 people, and had written to Hotels.com to clarify on the booking that but did not receive a reply from hotels.com. I immediately wrote an email at check-in to hotels.com explaining our situation, but to date, I have not received a reply regarding this situation and I had to pay an additional $120 for the 3rd person. This is not acceptable customer service.

rare gem in Tokyo
This modern ryokan in the Asakusa district of Tokyo is famous for its antiques filled interior and has been used to film period movies. It may look like it belongs in the time of the samurai, but it offers every modern comfort: the rooms have telephone, flat screen TV, safe, a thermos of green tea and minibar, and the bathrooms supply toothbrushes, shower caps and bath products. Two public baths are available for same gender bathing in alternance: cedar wood from 4 pm to 11 pm, then stone from 11 pm to 10 am. Yukata (traditional robe), happi coat and slippers are provided to relax in around the hotel. There is a lounge behind reception with books and more antiques. The food is abundant and delicious, served in one of the spacious dining room at a low table reserved with your name written on an origami crane (a symbol of good luck and fortune). Upon departure you're presented with a luggage tag engraved with your name.

Comfortable ryokan geared to foreigners
Great stay for people who want to experience the traditional ryokan in Japan. Best part for my husband and I is the traditional breakfast that came with it and that every room had a private bathroom/tub. Traditional ryokans only have public bath houses and Sadachiyo did too but it definitely was nice to have the comfort of our privacy when you're not used to public baths.
