"Great location right by the ocean! You can enjoy the sunrise over the water from both the living room and the master bedroom. The property was very clean and had air conditioning units in every room. It looked exactly like the pictures and was very spacious for the three of us. It is located in a beautiful neighborhood, and the building has 24/7 security, so we felt very safe throughout our stay."

Muntri Grove

10/10 Excellent

"Muntri Grove is an absolute gem in George Town. The location is brilliant, the staff and service are excellent, and the rooms are enormous, beautifully kept and full of character. It feels like somewhere you've actually travelled to stay, rather than another generic hotel room that could be anywhere in the world. The pool is an absolute treat after a long, hot day exploring Penang. Even better, there are free icy poles by the pool, which may sound like a small thing until you've spent the day walking around George Town in Malaysian heat. Then they're basically a five-star amenity. I'd also take some of the reviews complaining about nearby live music with a grain of salt. I really didn't find it particularly loud, and you're staying in a fantastic, lively part of George Town. My solution was to wander out, listen to some genuinely great bands and have a few beers. Problem solved. If I had to find a complaint, it's also somehow a compliment. I love that Muntri Grove provides kimonos instead of boring hotel robes, and proper sandals/thongs instead of those terrible disposable slippers. Sadly, the sandals and my European male-sized feet were never destined to be friends. 😂 Fantastic hotel, wonderful staff, huge rooms, loads of character and a location that makes exploring George Town incredibly easy. I'd happily stay here again."

"Booked for family of 5, 2 rooms, lovely and spacious. But surprisingly there was not an extra bed just a sofa and extra sheets not extra quilt! But room clean and comfortable. Breakfast, there was a good variety. Pool available and pleasant. Location a little disappointing as beach good for views but really noone used it and there was no amenities to speak of there. I would say for me restaurants for dinner of lesser standard than other 4* hotels we have attended, comparatively cost to restaurants particularly in Georretown extortionate for quality offered. Regardless staff very nice and helpful."

"The hotel was well located within the centre of Penang with a good selection of restaurants and cafés all within walking distance. The staff both at reception and also cleaning were excellent in particular a staff member who took care of my room who goes by the name of Harun was a lovely chap who could not do enough for us. We felt very welcomed throughout our day and would recommend the granite hotel to future visitors of Penang."

"This is a lovely heritage-style hotel in the middle of Chulia St. While it's close to all the action, it's also an oasis of calm inside. The pool is small but nice to have (and rare for a heritage hotel). We spent three nights here and on arrival were told that the original room we were booked had been overbooked, but comms via Expedia hadn't come through in advance, so we were downgraded to a Courtyard room, which turned out to be slightly bigger and more comfortable than expected from other reviews. As compensation we were offered the final night in the suite, which was absolutely lovely - I could easily have spent a week in there! Staff were incredibly nice, thoughtful, helpful and kind. Breakfast was so-so - while the buffet was not the most appealing, there were also omelettes made to order, and you're not short of every kind of food option around the neighbourhood anyway."

"The staff are very helpful and make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, especially front desk. Pool area is a very nice place to chill out after a day of exploring. They even serve a lovely afternoon tea snack by the pool. The room was lovely, with so much room to move and great central spot for walking everywhere in George Town."

"Great stay in this historic property, conveniently located in the heart of the George Town UNESCO district, mere steps away from the nearest phenomenal restaurant. The bathroom was OK, and our towels were a bit musty to begin with (but were replaced upon request). However, the beds were super comfortable. We appreciated the daily bottled water and the breakfasts. The morning staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful with suggestions and offers to call taxis; the afternoon/evening staff a little less so. Be aware that the proximity to the nearby Kapitan Keling Mosque meant for some loud mornings and late evenings. The broadcasts on the minaret's loud speakers went way beyond the typical two-minute call to prayer five times a day. Some hours, it seemed more like the imam was preaching long sermons over the speakers which made sleep sometimes tricky. Overall, we liked this place, and would stay here again."
