Great Alternative for Business Travel

I had a choice between another boring night at a Courtyard or HYATT Place. Instead, I tried this little B&B. What a great choice! Carole and Tom are wonderful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The pool and setting is a million times more relaxing than another business hotel. Tom brought beer out as I worked by the pool. Had a great run in the country. Breakfast was the best I've had in a long time. To top it off, I already miss Marley the dog. A charming place with charming owners. Go out of your way to pay them a visit.

Lovely B & B

This civil war era B & B is charming, historic, authentic, and lovely. The owners, Carole & Tom, are the most wonderful people you will meet. They greet you as you arrive, show you around the property, settle you into your room, and even accommodate you with a glass of wine, delivered straight to your room, after a long day of travel. So perfect! The cottage house was cozy and comfortable. The morning breakfast cooked by Carole herself is the most delicious, heavenly food you will taste. Trust me, she's an excellent chef! And, the conversation and connection you find with her and Tom will be good for your soul! Now...please take note that for whatever reason, the communication through VRBO with the owners was non-existent. They were unable to see my messages and the interactions took place via email rather than through the VRBO site, which I was uncomfortable with at first, but quickly realized it must be some glitch between them and VRBO. They were just as mystified about the problems as I was. It all got straightened out once I arrived at their B & B, but do yourself a favor and directly book with them on their site, 1861Inn dot com , to avoid miscommunications and to get a better price.

We absolutely loved the entire experience. Tom and Carole are very professional about providing a great B&B...and they succeeded. Great breakfast, good information and a beautiful fully provided for overnight stay,,,love the pool. Would stay there again without hesitation...Good folks...

Tom and Carole were fabulous hosts as was their dog, Marley. Pool was refreshing and breakfast was AMAZING. Can't wait to go back!

A Great Place

Lovely B&B set in nice quiet landscape of trees and hills but also very close to major routes; very friendly owners/staff and quite accommodating. Highly recommended.

A Wonderful little getaway place!

Wow..its the best word to describe this quaint little bed and breakfast. Wish we could have stayed here longer. The amenities were superb and the innkeepers were the best. What a delicious breakfast too!

a wonderful get-away

The 1861 Inn was an absolutely outstanding B&B for a stopover on our way to southern Kentucky. Our room, Jenny's Retreat, was wonderful, with a very comfortable bed, an impressive shower, and an amazing screened in private porch overlooking a very nice swimming pool. The hospitality and awesome cooked breakfast offered by Carole and Tom were top-notch and much appreciated. We already have very fond memories of our visit and look forward to returning!

A Hidden Gem

We have stayed at many B&Bs in numerous states over the past twenty-five years or so. Tucked away in the town of Batavia is the beautiful 1861 Inn. It is a wonderful getaway. The grounds are serene, the house is restful, the hospitality is superb, and the food is delectable. My husband and I had a hard time leaving our room Jennys Retreat. It was a true sanctuary from the busyness of life. We get pampered and restored. Definitely add the 1861 Inn to your list.

1861 Inn wonderful B and B stay

Our second time staying here and we enjoyed it even more. Breakfasts were delicious. Outdoor pool was a chance to cool off. The flowers and plants around the house fun to stroll around. Carole and Tom, the innkeepers hospitable and interesting to talk to. Highly recommend it for weekend in Cinn.

Great spot and wonderul hosts!

Tom and Carole were fantastic hosts and great conversationalists. We passed through on a weeklong bike ride, so the swimming pool was an unexpected bonus. Beautiful grounds and house, and comfortable accommodations.

Great place to stay

Food was delicious; host & hostess were lovely; Marley, their dog, was so friendly (he helped us not miss ours so much!) We stayed in the cottage, which was nice for sleeping, but was not very comfortable to hang out in.

A country retreat near the city

We enjoyed our stay in this peaceful and welcoming historic home. Driving into downtown Cincinnati for the evening was a piece of cake. Our hosts were so gracious and served a gourmet breakfast the next morning. Wishing we could have strayed longer!

Wonderful Stay

Carole and Tom were great hosts. We had The Jenny room that had a private screened in porch overlooking the pool. The grounds are beautiful. Defiantly will stay there again if in area.

Wonderful stay

Carole and Tom were great hosts. We had The Jenny room and we had our own private screened in porch overlooking the pool. The grounds were beautiful. We got a cup of coffee delivered to us 45 minutes before the great breakfast served in the dining room. We would definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

We were quickly greeted by carol and Tom and shown around the property and to our room. House was beautiful and clean. They went out of their way to assure we had everything we could possibly need.

Wonderful stay!

My friends and I chose 1861 Inn for a college reunion. We had such a nice stay... relaxing in the pool, hanging out on the porches, and enjoying the delicious breakfasts. Carol and Tom were great and so inviting. Definitely recommend.

A Quiet and Restful Getaway

We stayed in the smokehouse/pool cottage because the focus of our stay was rest and the pool. We love kids, but wanted to skip the splashing and noise for the weekend and the pool was sparkling and beautiful - much larger than you might think from the pictures. Carole and Tom were the most welcoming and attentive hosts - but were sensitive to the activity meter we set for ourselves at the same time. Great suggestions for local sight seeing were made. Breakfasts were fabulous and morning coffee was delivered to our door about 45 minutes prior to breakfast. Lovely. Next time we will take advantage of one of Carole's special gourmet dinners as the two other couples staying there did and had a wonderful experience. We hope to return soon.

Exceptional B&B in a charming location

We decided to take a break from the big hotel chains and stay in this lovely B&B for a couple of days. We'd not stayed in an American B&B before so didn't know what to expect. The hosts were very welcoming and gracious, they weren't intrusive but provided a friendly atmosphere and more than happy to help or answer any questions. The food at breakfast was excellent and far surpassed our expectations. We'd recommend this B&B and wouldn't hesitate to stay again if in the area. Carole, Tom and Marley do a grand job!

Fantastic Weekend

Wish I could give more than five stars. This place is great. Location is out of the way, but still convenient to everything in Cinci. Carole and Tom are the perfect hosts. A pool at a B & B, and it did not diminish from the charm of a home built in the 1800's. How cool is that? We will be back.
