My poor experience started when I attempted to book directly with the hotel. Despite an automatic receipt of my email they never responded. I ended booking via Expedia which cost me a few hundred dollars more due to the delay in not using Expedia at the start. Upon arrival after 9pm our group of five (3 rooms) had many bags and there was nobody at all at baggage services located at the entrance. After we had dealt with the bags a "bellboy" of sorts was seen but showed little interest. I'm unsure if he was on the hotel payroll anyway due to his unprofessional dress. Things got worse when we tried to check-in. The trainee receptionist who was on his own could not find our booking and it took around 20 mins to sort out. By this time there was a queue behind us, none of whom seemed very happy at their subsequent late check-ins. Despite paying weeks ago for 3 identical rooms close to each other we were given 2 close to each other and another much smaller room with a different view. My wife & I took the "inferior" room which was tired, dusty and had a broken toilet seat. Having just left a superb 5* hotel in Thailand, this was a real downer. I complained the next morning and the duty manager moved us next to our adult children in the same type of room. He lacked any kind of apathy and he and his staff gave an uncaring attitude. My family nicknamed HFC, Hotel Fort CANNOT. Despite it's beautiful facade I would not recommend this hotel. In essence it's Mutton dressed as Lamb.

First impressions were pleasing. Havi g stayed for 6 nights, many issues were identified with the room. - Romรกn blinds let in a lot of light. - Maintenance of the room was poor - took 4 visits to reception to get the batteries for the safe replaced (the first 3x occasions, they didn't mention that maintenance don't have access to the room without my presence). This does not make sense, as the room is made up while we were out. The bath plug mechanism didn't work. The wardrobes didn't close properly, causing the lights in the wardrobe to remain on at night. There were other items too. - The room has electronically operated lights, A/C and blinds (i.e. supposedly upmarket), but no USB charging ports, which is a basic requirement for present day. - The room's fire detection lights are so bright that they interrupted our sleep. There were other smaller problematic items.

Charming older building with large rooms. My room had a problem with the hot water in the shower. The first day was my fault as I had the handle set wrong. Once the maintenance person showed me the correct orientation I had hot water once. After the one time I never even got to luke warm even after waiting for 10 minutes for the water to run.

Have stayed at Hotel Fort Canning previously and really enjoyed it. This time not so much. The property has not been maintained well - the upholstery on the chair in our room was torn, visible dust and cobwebs, lots of paint on the building has cracked and flaked off, area around pool is quite tired with pieces falling off steps, tiles missing from pool, and canvas covers on day beds stained a mossy green. Also disappointed with the quality of food and drinks at the restaurant and bar. There were a lot of events occurring this time we stayed which is absolutely fine for a hotel but the separation between hotel guests wasn't there. I was squeezing past conference attendees to get towels for the pool (in swimsuit) and felt like I walked through a wedding a few times. Awkward for me and not great for paying conference/wedding guests. Plus sides are it is is quiet, in a beautiful setting, and the rooms as are well appointed and cosy. Anyway, standards and quality have slipped here. All of these things are fine and acceptable at a lower standard of hotel but that's not what Hotel Fort Canning is pitched at, or charges for. Probably wouldn't stay here again as a result.
