"The hotel itself is a bit on the far end of the town, making it nice and quiet, with a fantastic view over lake Toya and the islands. If you come by train or bus, they kindly offer shuttle services, which was greatly appreciated. Rooms very comfortable with their own onsen, beds amazing, breakfast also great - both options, Japanese and Western style. The only problem was that even though you were a hotel guest, you could not dine in the hotel, unless you call at least two days in advance. This was not mentioned anywhere during booking, so we were unpleasantly surprised that we couldn’t eat in our own hotel, considering that the towns is about 4 km away. So we had to take a taxi to eat somewhere. The restaurant was not even full in the evening, thus we felt quite disappointed by this strange situation. Other than this though, it was a very pleasant stay. "
"Staff and accommodations very nice. Free laundry.
Only confusion was check in and line up for food in same door. Stayed in food line for short bit and then asked for check in. Even though very busy a staff showed us everything. "
The Windsor Hotel Toya, Vignette Collection by IHG
10/10 Excellent
"Nice 5 star hotel. The service and staff is top notch. The views are spectacular. Great place to retreat to and relax. We stayed here for 1 night in our trip through Hokkaido.
My only issue was at check in. We were required to make the dinner reservations and meal selection at the front desk. And not everything we wanted was available to us. So it was very awkward experience in my opinion. I don’t know if I made a mistake not reserving the restaurants in advance but it is hard to know what you want for dinner up to 7 months in advance. Maybe it was just better to order room service. "
"The room is a little dated but otherwise super clean and spacious. Another disappointment is thst the hotel only have shower in the onsen which many guests may like the experience but better if the hotel can consider shower room for people who wants privacy.
Anyway, still I would recommend this hotel."
"Check-in was a little odd using a machine, but there was an employee who helped us. The nearby lake was beautiful, although we didn't have the clearest view from our room. The free sake was fun in the lobby. Breakfast was also tasty. The Japanese-style mattress (futon) could have used a bit more padding."
