Hoi An is a beautiful city that sits along the central coast of Vietnam. This former harbour town is now a major tourist destination, mainly because of its UNESCO World Heritage site old town. Hoi An also boasts spectacular sunsets both along the Thu Bon River and the East Vietnam Sea.
Don’t MissThe old town is the biggest draw of the area, with major attractions like the beautiful 15th century Japanese Covered Bridge's Pagoda, Quan Cong Temple, Museum of Folk Culture and Hoi An Museum of History and Culture. There are also a number of old houses in the old town; some are lived in and others have been preserved.
A cruise down the Thu Bon River is one of the most picturesque and romantic ways to see the sunset in Hoi An. After dark, visitors should take a walk along the streets of the old town and see it lit up with lanterns.
Just on the outskirts of Hoi An is the lovely Tra Que Village, a green village that grows local produce for the area. Tourists can learn about Vietnam’s architecture at the Vinahouse Space that lies just outside of the city. Vinahouse Space features numerous houses that were built between the 18th and 20th centuries and sit within beautiful Feng Shui gardens.
Restaurants and BarsHoi An is famous for three dishes: cao lau (rice noodles), banh bao vac (shrimp dumplings) and hoanh thanh (wonton dumplings). It is also possible to get a wide range of other cuisine in the area, including French, Mexican, Italian and Indian. Still, some of the finest dining options are in the high-end resorts, like Hotel Royal Hoi An Mgallery Collection and Golden Sand Resort and Spa. The old town is the best place for nightlife in Hoi An, with streets along the riverside lined with lively bars.
ShoppingHoi An is known for its custom made suits and shoes, as well as for cloning clothing. The Hoi An Silk Village is one of the best places to get a high quality silk suit or dress made and it also sells handmade lanterns and luxury textiles. Souvenirs can be found along streets in the old town, where stalls are set up to sell jewellery, handicrafts and other popular items.
