Lovely stay, very quiet and clean rooms. Great and helpful staff, felt very welcoming! Location was also ideal, but would have liked the washrooms to be cleaned a bit more frequently (though was still good!)

Glad we tried it
We booked knowing that this accommodation is basic when compared to other places, such as hotels, so we were realistic with our expectations. Having stayed/lived in similar places in younger days, along with using Youth Hostels, etc., it fulfilled our precise requirements for a short 2-night / 3-day trip to London where we took in a number of theatre shows and met friends. So we were literally only inside the place to sleep, shower and take onboard some breakfast before heading out again. Therefore, we couldn’t fault it at all. There were lots of people staying, so everyone can’t be wrong. The location was ideal, a short walk to Angel Underground station and the City of London area. We enjoyed our included breakfasts, although patience is a virtue at busy service times, but the food choice was varied and plentiful and helped set us up for the day. Overall, we would definitely stay again.

Pillow made of paper and thinner than a pizza. Mattress hasnt been replaced since the millennium and is a spring loaded acupuncture nightmare. Shower absolutely useless, no water pressure, wouldn't find a temperature and would just cycle between boiling and freezing every 10 seconds. I tried more than one shower and had the same issue every time. Staff were about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Not too far from the underground so it earns a point for that.

Great concept! Very reasonably priced. Only issues I had…shower didn’t get very hot and the room was very stuffy in the 30 degree temperatures.

Overall I doubt you'd find a better option for a budget stay in the Angel area, though there are trade offs! Pros: Super convenient location, safe, clean, friendly staff. Breakfast is impressive for the price point. Cons: Rooms are v basic (though clean) and if you are remotely sensitive to sound or heat - you need to prepare. Bring earplugs and a portable fan! I'd also advise flip-flops for the communal shower.

Excellent breakfast
Booked a twin room with ensuite. Room was spacious, clean but a bit tired looking. Beds looked old and springy but I have to stay I slept like a log. Ensuite was a walk in bathroom. No hairdryer but towels and soaps included. Breakfast was amazing, well worth it. We arrived 30 mins early but we were not allowed to check in. Then 30 mins later there was a large queue of everyone checking in. Silly in this day and age to make everyone arrive at the same time. Location, very close to Exmouth Market which has a vibrant nightlife of all ages, not just students. Plenty of food choices. Location - also very close to Sadlers Wells Ballet so a cheap place to stay and watch the Ballet only about a 5 min walk away. Tube also only 5 mins away. I would definately stay again.

A mixed bag
I booked a twin ensuite - the room was large, functional, and clean but it was very run down. From talking to other guests I believe one block has been refurbished and one not. Things that bothered me included the bed: a thin base sheet was barely stretched over a saggy old mattress - mattress protectors surely wouldn't cost much and would give a more hygienic impression. And the shower leaked from between the hose and shower head, spraying everywhere. On the other hand, the included breakfast was good considering the overall price, and I ate it outside in a pleasant courtyard. A common room area is available, and a kitchen, though the latter wasn't in a great state. Toiletries were provided, again a bit of a nice surprise for a budget option.

If I were an LSE student I'd want to jazz this place up a bit! But for a one-night stay at extraordinary value, it was ideal. Breakfast was a particular bonus.
