location is nice, everything else - not so nice...
I selected the hotel based on the location and availibility of a room for three adults (me, my spose, and our 22y daughter), and not a sky price. In a sence I get what I want. But the room was too small. On arrival I found an old towel behind my bed, and overall cleaning was done in the same way.. Summarizing: I didn't expect much, but I did expect something better..

Basic and simple, nothing fancy.
Points to take in to consideration: 1) If you want to use an Iron, you have to do it in the front room of the hotel, if people are sat in there, it doesn't matter. 2) Towels are only changed every 3 days; 3) Breakfast is very basic; Location wise, it's really good as it's a few minutes from Paddington Station.

Lovely stay
The hotel was lovely very close to Marble Arch area which was great for getting a double decker tour bus connection or to use underground. Lots of good restaurants with walking distance. Room were a good size for our luggage and us. Only thing didn't like was had to purchase wi fi and its didn't work half the time

Good to go.
First off people should understand that unless you are shelling out several hundreds of dollars, you're not going to get a really nice hotel room in London. The rooms in general are small and somewhat tired. And in any case, you don't really go to London to hang out in the room. Or at least I don't. I was in town for a 3-day shopping marathon/layover. So Orchard Hotel is totally adequate. The room was clean, and bigger than rooms I've had at the Strand Palace and other hotels, and the amenities were more current. There was a problem with the window so there was a draft but I didn't have a problem with that (I generally keep a window cracked open when I'm not paying the heating bill) although I imagine many people would. The only real drawback for me was that the window also let in a lot of street noise. Staff were helpful and pleasant to deal with, some more so than others. Breakfast is basic (toast, cereal, boiled eggs). The location is very good. It's easily walkable from Paddington (with all the nice drop curbs to ease the arduous task of dragging your rolling suitcase) and at the end of a row of similar hotels. There are restaurants and (basic) shops on London Street. The area has a nice neighborhood-y feel to it, which is remarkable given that it's so close to a major train station. I would definitely consider staying here (or on Sussex Gardens) again.

Great little London Hotel
We've just returned home from a very comfortable 4 nights stay at the Orchard Hotel. It's a small hotel with a homely feel. The reception staff were very helpfull and the Hotel runs very smoothly. It's so near to Paddington station and Oxford Street, we couldn't beleive how easy it was to walk from the station to the Hotel. The Continental breakfast was sufficient and the dining room run very efficiently. The decor is in first class condition and the hotel is very clean. Our room was overlooking the road but the Hotel is situated well in from the road so there wasn't any disterbance from traffic. We will deffinately return to this great little Hotel when we next visit London. Prices very reasonable for a central Hotel.

Orchard Hotel: tiny, clean, renovated & sufficient
TIny but clean rooms. Very odd breakfast (tolerable but definitely not English breakfast), no wifi in rooms but down in lobby, new elevator, new bathroom (albeit quite narrow and tight), pillows were hard, clean sheets, beds made daily, very friendly and hard working staff.

Excellent value for business travellers
This was my first time at the Orchard Hotel but certainly not my first time in this type of London hotel: converted residential turned into a rabbit warren of rooms. I stayed in two different rooms (my fault because of a mix-up in reservations): #205 (surprisingly on the second floor) faced the street and was a bit two small for its two single beds; #507 (not surprisingly, given how eccentric these places are, was in the basement) was ultra quiet, facing onto a tiny square and both the room and bathroom were large. Both rooms were clean, with flat screen TV and a good choice of channels. The bathrooms were clean and modern...but aside from a single piece of soap, bare of things you might normally expect, like shampoo. The rooms were, I believe, representative of the general state of the hotel: refurbished in the first half of 2012 and still looking clean and bright. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly. There is a breakfast available for a price but I did not partake. There is no bar or dining room. No summer air-conditioning. WiFi available for 5 pounds a day. The hotel is an easy walk from Paddington Station (home of the Heathrow Express) and to Edgeware Road, home of a vibrant Lebanese/Arab community. The major food chains are there (Tesco and, closest to the hotel, Waitrose). Overall: excellent "value for money" for business travellers and others that just want a place to sleep as they do London.

Stayed for a conference around the corner. Used the hotel for somewhere to sleep and eat breakfast. Don't expect much from the breakfast, no fresh juice is made available (just squash). Not much food choice either. Wasn't a dreadful stay, but it wouldn't be my first choice again based on the poor breakfast.

Two blocks away from Paddington Station.
We had a very enjoyable stay. Could not ask for a better staff. We stayed at two seperate times while we were in England. Both stays were very nice Within walking distance to a major tube and railway station. Saw on other reviews that the rooms were small. Our first room was a little small but it had everything you could want no complants at all. Our second room was large and both had very nice bathrooms. After all we were in LONDON!! Breakfast was good and if you wanted something more there were plenty of choices just down the street, believe me if you go to London and take in the sites you will find plenty to eat. Like I said it's London. So lf and when we go back to London we will make Orchard House Hotel our first choice.

Hardware is ok, while software is to be improved
We've stayed for five days. First, the hotel is easy to find from Paddington Station and just 8 minutes' walk. it's re-decorated, however, i had to say the software is so-so. The waiter who washs the plate and cleans the table is not patient enough to serve and always make whomp. And, the breakfast only serve toast, egg, ham and oatmeal and the teast is bald. i'd say it's the worst hotel during my entired England trip in this year. last but not the least, the free wifi service is poor. Even we sit in the lobby, it's hard to connect sometime. There are so many hotels arrounds Sussex Garden, you'd find better one nearby.

Tiny room, convenient location
The room and shower/toilet were very small for 2 people. The location was very convenient with walking distance to Paddington Station, Lancaster Gate tube station, Hyde / Kensington Parks. The staff at the front desk was OK. The continental breakfast consisted of instant coffee, white bread toast, jam, cheese and something the hotel called ham. Considering we were out and about all day long, it was all acceptable.

The big negative for this room was they would not change towels everyday. This really bothered me considering how much I paid for the hotel. In addition, the staff in the breakfast room was not very nice. The staff at the front desk was helpful. The room was very small but that seems to be the norm in London. On the positive side, the rooms were very clean initially and it is a very good location. The breakfast was okay except for the orange stuff they served. Would I stay here again? No. If location is important for you, there were about 20-30 hotels all within a few blocks of this hotel.

We booked this hotel as a last minute stay for the Olympics. Hotel was small but rooms were clean and well presented but the bathroom was quite small. It was five minutes on foot to Paddington tube and in a fairly quiet area. We had got the time wrong for the continental breakfast and was ten minutes late. But did eventually get a cup of coffee and a piece of toast. Overall good value for a last minute London hotel.

Clean, Affordable, No Frills Hotel
We came to London during the Olympics, so we needed to find an affordable hotel for our stay. The Orchard Hotel recently went through renovations, so we were pleasantly surprised. The location from Paddington Station (where the 15 minute Heathrow Express from the airport goes) is just a 5 minute walk. That was wonderful. The staff was accommodating. Our flight arrived at breakfast time, and we were allowed to leave our luggage in the lounge across from the check in desk until a room was ready for us. We ended up being able to check in a few hours earlier than the posted check in time. The bathroom was clean and functional, the beds were comfortable, and there was a nice flat screen TV mounted to the wall. Very high ceilings and we cracked our window open each night to get a nice breeze while we slept. We never ended up trying the complimentary breakfast since there were nice cafes just a quick walk down the street. Lots of nice pubs and food options just a quick walk from the hotel, yet not a busy section of the city so it was easy to sleep. Good options for tube access to get all over the city for siteseeing. If you are looking for a no frills, comfortable, and affordable hotel in London, I would highly recommend the Orchard Hotel.

Nice hotel. Clean. Friendly staff. Room was small but we weren't in London to stay in a hotel room. Close to Paddington rail and tube stop. Lots of good restaurants and shops just around the corner. Within walking distance of Kensington and Hyde Park, Marble Arch. Internet cafe just around the corner where you could buy internet for a pound for an hour. WiFi is available at the hotel but there is a charge, and it wasn't user friendly.

A very nice place; clean and comfortable
I am not sure why this hotel did not get higher ratings from other travelers. The location of the hotel is good -- it is near a Tube station (10-15 minute walk to Edgeware Road station) and there are many Middle Eastern restaurants, fresh fruit stands, and currency exchange shops on Edgeware Road; there also is a Tesco Express shop nearby. The hotel is clean and neat and seemed to be recently upgraded (there was a slight scent of fresh paint). We were in a room away from the main street so it was quiet at night. Staff was helpful and the hotel was able to hold our bags in a safe location until the afternoon even though we had checked out in the morning. Toilet and shower were clean and the beds were VERY comfortable. The only drawbacks (that knocked my overall rating down to a 4 from a 5 -- and in reality a 4.5 probably is a more accurate rating) were that the bedroom window opened only about a third of the way because some wood had been nailed into the frame to prevent the window from opening further -- this made our night's sleep a little uncomfortable during the summer [I assume that the hotel did this to prevent rain from coming in a fully open window, which is fine, but they should then provide a small fan in the room] -- and the breakfast was not worth waking up for: toasted white bread, tea/coffee, slices of ham and cheese, and boiled eggs [the hotel would be better off getting rid of the breakfast and lowering the room rate, which was a little pricey through Expedia].

Excellent hotel for a small family
Overall, the stay was excellent. The staff is very pleasant and accommodating. The rooms are a bit small, as compared to what we are used to in the US, but we managed just fine. There is significant remodeling that is taking place, but this did not, in any way, inconvenience our stay. The first phase of the remodeling project is basically complete. The next phase will not begin until November of 2012. When the remodeling project is finished, this hotel will look top-notch.

Good deal if traveling on a budget
I've stayed here 3 separate times and all 3 rooms have been recently renovated and kept up nicely. The size is small (typical european size) so as long as your expectations are not that of a typical US hotel you won't be disappointed. No air conditioning which is fine for most weeks in London. Windows open though so you can have some ventilation. Staff is friendly and they clean the room daily and replace towels every other day. Locations is great with it being a 10 minute walk from Paddington which is a main stop for 4 different tube lines and the heathrow express.

I believe the price is more than good for this hotel. The room was as clean as one would hope it to be, we were actually very positively surprised by the cleanliness. The service and all the staff members were more great, could not ask for more! We were helped and served at all times for 24/7. The room was a bit small, but that did not bother us at all. Orchard Hotel is very close to Oxford road and Regent road and the Paddington underground station is near by and will take you quickly to places. The hotel was extremely pretty on the outside and on the inside. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who want's to visit London and have a very pleasant stay and a perfect hotel for a perfect price!!

I don't know where to begin: no working elevator, hotel smells like smoke, tiny room smells like mold, they don't change the sheets & towels everyday or replace soap (had to ask after 3 nights). Breakfast was cheesy .... dry white bread with 2 pieces butter & one jam, hard boiled eggs they ran out of, cheese, mystery ham, watered down orange/yellow drink being passed off as juice, 1 1/4 hours to get to this meager breakfast -- 7:30 - 8:45, no chest for storage so suitcases had to be scattered around room, so many other better hotels are available for less money ....... DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE. Also overpriced for first night .... told to take it up with Expedia (I made reservations through Hotel.com)

This hotel had the most unfriendly staff ever and the room was not cleaned throughout our stay. Even when we first entered the room the linens had hair all over and the bathroom as well. Under construction . . .
The biggest problem was the ongoing construction while we stayed there, beginning as early as 7:20, mostly 8:45, with constant banging, knocking, hammering, right underneath our room. The worst day was the day after we arrived, since we were jet-lagged and just wanted to sleep in a bit. No chance. They said they had been renovating for the last three months and were almost done. I feel they should have noted that in their ads. I would not have booked them. Also, no free WIFI -- we could have purchased time. When coffee shops and pubs offer it for free, that, to me, is a big No. Since our arrival into Heathrow was at 6:30 am, I had called ahead to see if we could store our bags. They had no record of my phone call, they did, however, allow us to leave our bags in the lounge, which was very run-down. They had an electric water kettle for tea there, however the lounge was not very appetizing. I opted not to sit on the couches either. Since they had no room available, we left and found breakfast down the block, returning at around 11 am, at which time they did let us into the room. They served breakfast from 7:30 to 8:45 am only -- I suppose they wanted everyone out of the hotel so they could continue their construction. Needless to say, we never did experience their breakfast. The room was clean, the bathroom tiny, the view onto a sort-of airshaft. I am not planning a return visit.

Close to the Paddington station, it had easy access to the Heathrow Express and the London Underground. As such, it was convenient to Hyde Park, as well as to London's major attractions, either by walking or taking the underground. The room was small as was the bathroom, but as I was "on the run",so that was not a big deal for me. The size of the room and the bathroom would be a problem if two people were staying together. The complimentary breakfast was limited and I ate elsewhere for the most part.

Convenience over Cleanliness
The Orchard Hotel in Bayswater is conveniently located, particularly for tourists planning to travel to centres such as Bath or to use the express train to Heathrow Airport. Paddington station is only a five minute walk. However, I would be reluctant to recommend it to other travellers. The staff were totally disengaged and our room was not cleaned properly. It was clear the carpet had not been vacuumed, as there were long black hairs covering the floor (and they weren't ours!). The room also lacked a safe, (standard in most European hotels), a kettle for making tea/coffee, lifts and even a pamphlet outlining hotel services. We will not be going back.

Great Location if that is your biggest priority!
This hotel was just what it advertised. It is no frills and in a GREAT location. I took the Heathrow Connect to Paddington Station and was 2 blocks from the hotel. Paddington is also a tube station so you are in a great location to get all around Greater London. If all you are only looking for is a place to sleep and leave your stuff, this is the hotel for you. The room was of adequate size, but had nothing more than a bed, a bathroom, and a small 12 inch TV with 4 channels. I arrived in London, walked to the hotel, dropped my things on the bed, and headed out for the day. I did not return until I was tired and ready to sleep. If you are coming to London to spend time in the streets and venues and all you want is a safe bed in a great location, this is the place. Bring your own washcloths and shampoo. It does now have internet (for a fee), but don’t count on it to work well. I ended up going on another site and paying for each day of internet. It kept me caught up on work at night before sleeping so I could concentrate on enjoying London during the day and evening. If you’re like me and you plan to sight see, see shows on the West End, eat out, and only use the hotel for sleeping when you are worn out for the day this is your hotel. You get what you pay for so don’t expect deluxe. Expect a great and convenient location and a place to sleep.

Good budget option for London
London hotels tend to be pricey and not always the best value for money, and this is a clean, affordable option. Would recommend
