Taipei 101 is an iconic landmark that sits in the Xinyi District of Taipei and gets its name from the 101 storeys it has above ground. The 508-metre high tower was once the tallest skyscraper in the world and today is the world’s tallest green building. Taipei 101 is home to offices, a conference centre, observatories, restaurants and a shopping mall, occupying around 30,277 square metres of space.
Taipei 101 was designed to withstand typhoon winds and earthquakes, both of which are common to the area. It features a tuned mass damper that is suspended from the 92nd to the 87th floor that has become a popular tourist attraction in its own right. The exterior of Taipei 101 are blue-green glass curtain walls with aluminium panels, while the roof collects and recycles water for the building’s use.
The 88th to 92st floors of Taipei 101 feature its indoor and outdoor observatories that boast spectacular 360-degree views of the city, while the 36th floor is home to the Taipei 101 Conference Centre. The five basement levels are home to the Taipei 101 Mall.
